LEHS Lobo Academy
Lobo Academy is an accelerated high school program for students who have circumstances which prevent them from being successful in the traditional high school setting.
Lobo Academy has a day session, 7:20 am – 11:20 am,
An evening session, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Lobo Academy uses an online curriculum with academic support from highly qualified, certified content teachers.
ELIGIBILITY
Students who have not completed the school year of their 21st birthday may apply to Lobo Academy. They must also meet one or more of the following requirements (appropriate documentation required):
COST
Enrollment is free of charge and transportation is not provided.
ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to attend class every day during their respective time frames. Excessive absences may lead to disabling of online classes or dismissal from the program.
Students are expected to work on their online courses outside of school hours to maintain the minimum expectation of completing 4 online courses per quarter.
Students are expected to participate in school-related activities (workshops, STAAR preparation, community service, seat time recovery, etc.) as deemed appropriate by Lobo Academy staff.
GRADUATION
Students admitted to Lobo Academy will begin on the Foundation graduation plan with an endorsement (26 credits). Students must also meet the state assessment graduation requirement of successful completion of the 5 STAAR End-of-Course exams in Algebra 1, Biology, English 1, English 2, and US History.
A student may not opt out in order to graduate early. Students may only opt out of the endorsement if they are not able to complete all courses in time to graduate with their cohort. To opt out of the endorsement, students must submit their request in writing to the school counselor. The request will be followed by a meeting with the principal, counselor, student and parent to review graduation requirements and determine the best plan of action.
ENROLLMENT
Enrollment is limited. Students should complete the online application and participate in a required parent/student interview with a Lobo Academy staff member. Once approved, students will begin the program during the week before and the week after each school quarter.
DISMISSAL
Students are expected to meet program expectations regarding attendance, behavior and academic progress. Students are expected to comply with the LEISD Student Code of Conduct. Students with excessive issues concerning attendance, discipline or academic progress may result in another alternative placement or dismissal from Lobo Academy.
- Failed 2 or more core classes for the previous/current school year or current semester
- Retained for one or more school years
- Did not perform satisfactorily on STAAR
- Is pregnant or is a parent
- Placed in an alternative education program for the preceding or current school year
- Has been expelled during the preceding school year
- Is currently on parole, probation, deferred prosecution or other conditional release
- Previously reported in PEIMS as a dropout
- Is of limited English proficiency
- Is in custody or care of DPRS
- Is homeless
- Resided in a residential placement facility during the preceding or current school year.
