Assistant Principal for Student Support L-Red
Audra Vandiver
I joined LEISD in 1999 as a fourth grade teacher at King Elementary and was a part of the team that opened Brent Elementary in 2000, where I continued to teach fourth grade. In 2001, I became the Assistant Principal of Little Elm Primary which was later renamed Herschel Zellars Elementary and served our students for 12 years as the Assistant Principal and 1 year as the Interim Principal. Our campus was named an Exemplary Campus in 2008-2010 and continued to be the highest achieving campus in the district. It also received the following Gold Performance Awards: Commended in Reading and Math and Comparable Improvement in Reading and Math. In 2013, while serving as Interim Principal at Zellars, it was one of two LEISD campuses that were awarded two distinctions by TEA, which were Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps and Student Progress. Through repurposing, Zellars Elementary became Zellars Support and Learning Center and currently is the Early Childhood Learning Center for our Pre-K students. In 2014, I moved to Oak Point Elementary and Chavez in 2019 to serve their community as the Assistant Principal. Beginning this year, I will be the serving our community of LOBOS at the High School as an Assistant Principal (L-Red). I can't wait to begin building new relationships with our students and their families. Go Lobos!
Prior to joining LEISD, I began teaching in 1991 at Whitebead Dependent School as a first grade teacher in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. I was also the assistant basketball coach for grades 5 - 8th grades. In 1992, I moved to Jay, Oklahoma and taught second grade for seven years and absolutely loved the Green Country. In 1999, I moved to Texas to be closer to family and have been a part of our LOBO family ever since.
I graduated from Bokchito High School in Bokchito, Oklahoma. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Education degree with an Early Childhood Endorsement from Southeastern State Oklahoma University in Durant, Oklahoma. I received my Masterâs in Education and Principalâs Certification from the University of North Texas.
I have two wonderful children, Ian(20) and Olivia(14) and have loved living in Little Elm for 25 years and serving the students of LEISD. Ian loves sports and has loved being outside on the ranch helping his grandfather with the cattle. He is currently attending college and striving toward a Sales/Marketing degree. Olivia will be attending Little Elm High School as a freshman and loves being with her friends. She loves sports and is very involved with softball and volleyball.
I have been blessed by many great mentors in my life. While working on our ranch, my father taught my brother and I the importance of hard work, honesty and striving to do good not only for ourselves, but for others. My mother retired from teaching after 29 ½ years in the school system and is still loved by her former students. Whenever, I see one of them, they are sure to say, âBe sure to tell Mrs. Thompson, âHiâ. She was my favorite teacher.â Our mother taught us how to love, compassion and how you must have âgrit.â
I wanted to become a teacher because of my mother, because I saw how much she cared and the difference she made in other kidsâ lives. She is a special mom and also a âmomâ or âmentorâ to many.
As an administrator, I have had many mentors that have given me great experiences as Iâve grown in my leadership capacities. Everyday, I strive to be a positive influence for our students and to give them tools they need in decision making and academics, so they can be the best learner possible. One of the biggest gifts is to see others teaching what they have learned from you. I look forward to many more years of leading my students and staff in their personal successes.
